Dirt Bikes (Dirtbikes)Dirt bikes are designed for racing or sometimes long-distance touring in sandy or muddy conditions. |
KTM Dirt Bikes There are two main types of motorbikes: one is the ordinary motorbike, suited for public transportation, and the other type is the off-road bikes also known as dirt bikes. While they may look similar in appearance, a dirt bike is more suited to take on rough surfaces, and is better at handling those kinds of environments. It is also used on motorbike races around the world, as races are usually held on muddy, or on off-track roads. KTM, or Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, is one of the leading manufacturers of these off-road bikes in Austria. The company first started out as a metalworking shop in 1934, and started building motorcycles twenty years later (1954). They are well-known for their off-road dirt bikes, but recently, they have expanded their business and began to make motorbikes for public transportation as well. Their dirt bikes are well-equipped and designed specifically for off-road tracks and races. The design of these KTM dirt bikes is handled by a separate company, KiskaDesign, and is also responsible for the branding and marketing of these dirt bikes. KiskaDesign has designed these dirt bikes to suit the needs of a motocross racer. Its weight is lighter than that of other competing brands, making it a little faster than most bikes. It is also equipped with fully-adjustable WP front and rear, for those who wish to change their racing setup. Thanks to this innovative design, KTM dirt bikes have been winning rallies and races, including the Dakar Rally, where KTM dirt bikes have dominated it since 2001. One example of their off-road bikes is their 2010 SX Line. Included in this line is the KTM 150SX (144cc), which is developed for amateur classes. It handles like a 125cc bike, but its power is close to that of a 250cc bike, making it more inclined for beginner and novice riders. Other models include the Cross Country bikes, or their XC Line. It is more powerful than the bikes on the SX Line, excelling on speed and power. While the features of the XC Line mimic that of the SX Line, it is not built for novice riders, and is focused on intermediate to expert-level riders. They also have other models built for other types of races, like the Enduro and Super Enduro line of bikes. These models have the same features as the other types of bikes but also have unique features that the off-road dirt bikes don’t have. Their current focus in this upcoming year is to develop newer and better models for their SX and EXC Line of bikes. Other bikes made for public transportation and for other types of races (motocross races) are also in development.
